NASCAR hangs around Lowe’s Motor Speedway again this week after the All Star break…. Break..? The President has a little time off from updating thanks to a non points race. Even though his own team has temporarily dropped out of the top 10, The Prez breaks down the Top 10 once again..
st – Pappy’s Drivers: Larry Scroggins and Pappy’s Drivers have enjoyed three weeks on top of the standings. He wasted no time flying through the standings with lots of top 5 finishes. However, he did so using some big name superstar picks. He struggled a bit in Darlington and managed a 14th finish in Richmond. He still has Jimmie Johnson to use as a superstar and chances are its possibility it could happen this weekend, or possibly Elliott Sadler as well. After we hit the halfway mark, he may find some trouble when other teams start pulling out their big guns. He does have the best picks average so he knows how to pick them. As long as he keeps that up, he’ll continue to sit on top and put more teams out of the chase.
nd – Gasitnpassit: Led the standings for 4 weeks until he was knocked out by Pappy. He fell to third after High Octane passed him. He had his worst finish in Darlington, but he overcame that the next week. Mark said “not so fast boys” as he jumped back over High Octane in Richmond. Currently 63 points out of first place, Mark is looking for a good run at Lowe’s this weekend so he can reclaim that top spot and do to Pappy what Pappy did to him.
rd – High Octane: After being the butt of many joke after his freefall early in the season, High Octane righted his ship and knocked off 2 top 10’s and then 2 more wins. He became the fastest team to reach his 4th win and first team to do it in one season. He hit a dip in his rollercoaster ride of a season in Richmond by finishing 42nd. Lowe’s Motor Speedway will prove to be very interesting for Dan. He’ll show the league if he’s gonna start another freefall or climb back up the track again. He’s used a few big name drivers, but most of his superstar picks have been B class drivers, he still has a nice supply to use.
th – Bump And Go Racing: Unlike High Octane, Bump And Go has been smooth and steady. He quietly moved up through the standings for a few weeks and rooted himself into 4th place. He’s been in fourth for 4 weeks now. During his stay he’s had some good finishes of 4th, 14th and 4th. He hit a little trouble in Richmond by finishing 23rd but didn’t hurt him too badly. He’s done well with his picks as he’s tied for picking the most race winners. This week we’ll see if he can make it a 5th straight week in 4th or if he pushes himself up to 3rd.
th – Top Dawgs: Had a nice finish in Richmond while a lot of the other top 10 teams struggled. He came in 4th place and jumped up 3 spots in the standings to 5th place. This is the highest that Top Dawgs has been so far in the season. He hasn’t dropped in the standings since Vegas back in March, and that was his only drop. He’s used a few big name drivers as superstar picks, but has a few good ones left. As long as he can continue his pace, no reason why these dawgs shouldn’t be barking at the top of the standings eventually.
th – Miller MotorSports: Greg has been around 6th place for most of the time since the beginning of the season. The lowest he’s been was 11th and the highest he’s been was 5th. In Richmond he had his worst finish and dropped back from 5th to 6th again. At the start of the season he was pulling out some of his big superstars for the first 4 races, then went to being a little conservative and started using some B class ones. In the last 2 races, he hasn’t used any superstar picks. Only 50 points from dropping out of the top 10, let’s see if Miller MotorSports has anything up his sleeve for the Coca-Cola 600.
th – Jerry Jones Racing: JJR is finding 2005, much different than 2004. Last year he had no problem reaching the top and staying there. This year he did get to the top for 1 week but was knocked out. Could be the extra teams or the superstar option this year, but JJR hasn’t been able to dominate so far. He did finish 4th in the All Star race and had top 10’s in Talladega and Richmond, but has had a few bad finishes along the way. He has been saving most of his good superstar picks for the chase but he may have to use a few if he starts to drop. Is it any coincidence that he’s been more quiet this year on the boards since he’s not on top of the standings?
th – Jeffjoeracing: Finally got back into the top 10 after a 10th place finish in Richmond. Troy was in the top 10 briefly after Martinsville, but dropped out and hung around 11th for awhile. He leads the league in most top 5 picks, but only has picked the winner 3 times. He’s just in the league top 10 for picks average, if he can pick a few more race winners, he should start to climb up maybe up into the top 5.
th – Boogity Boogity Boogity: 9th place is the highest that BJ has been so far. Her 6th place finish at Richmond helped her gain 6 places in the standings. She’s now within 10 points of getting the 8th spot. She used Jimmie Johnson already so won’t be picking him as a superstar pick at Lowe’s, but still has a number of good ones she could use.
th- Legacy Racing: He’s only had 3 top 10 finishes so far but has also only had 3 real bad finishes. Unfortunately Richmond was one of them. Herb came in 32nd and dropped 3 points in the standings after getting up to 7th the previous week. He too has used Johnson as his superstar but has a number of good ones he could pull out. He’s done well with his picks, only has 3 picks finishing past 30 during the entire season so far. He’s picked 4 winners, if he can get that a little higher, he should have no problem making some ground up.
Outside looking in:
th – CrazyAboutRusty2: Needs to pay attention to his superstar picks, as he’s tried picking a few that he’s already used before in the season. He’s fallen quite a bit after being 3rd 4 weeks ago. Hasn’t had a top 20 finish since his win at Martinsville. Will need to start putting some good finishes together otherwise he’ll really slip down in the standings.
th – June Bug Racing: After falling down to 16th place after Darlington, June Bug had an 11th place finish and gained 4 spots back in Richmond. Matt had gotten into the top 10 for one week after Phoenix. A couple bad finishes knocked him back, but a good run at Charlotte will put him back in.
th – Intimidator Racing: WTF? 13th place is the lowest that Intimidator Racing has been in his entire career. He’s had trouble getting a top 10 finish and hasn’t had one since Bristol. Well, he has lots of good superstar picks at his disposal, may be time to start pulling out some of the big guns and getting back into the top 10 before its too late.
