In his first submitted news article Matt Sealey aka June Bug Racing takes a look at our current top 10 and the odds that they will make the chase..
ODDS TO THE CHASE
It seems that debate among the who's the best teams in NASCAR sparks passion in our league, so I decided to go one further and place Odds on who among the Top Ten currently will remain there and be in the Chase for the Dale Earnhardt Trophy.
(there are no right or wrong answers here, just my opinion on what will be based what has transpired)
First up, we have Gasitinpassit, the current points leader. Mark's Margaritaville Cafe Ford has placed no worse than 16th in any of the races yet, so it seems he is a real contender here. With Superstar picks of Gordon, Kenseth, Busch, Martin, and Harvick already being used, you have to wonder what will he be doing after the top fifteen drivers are used up. Just don't count him out though, anyone who has been in tornadoes and hurricanes alike and is still among us can't be brushed aside so quickly.
Odds = 5 to 2
In second place, is our President and League Founder, Intimidator Racing. Lou's Best Buy Chevy stumbled a little in Las Vegas with a 17th place showing, but there are plenty of teams out there that would love for that to be their worse problem. He's consistant in both Busch and Cup leagues and is still looking to exact revenge on JJR taking the inaugural championship from him.
Odds = 7 to 5
Pappy's Drivers are in third place with Larry's Pabst Blue Ribbon Chevy. Like his favorite driver, Mark Martin, Larry is showing that he knows how to overcome the adversity of limping out of Daytona to rally with four straight top 10 finishes.
Odds = 2 to 1
In fourth place is Jerry Jones Racing. Just like Shawn's sponser, the Dallas Cowboys, he has established himself as the team to beat by winning it all last year and picking up right where he left off by putting picking the winner of the first four races. Bristol was his first showing outside of the Top Ten, and thus lost the top spot. Now if we could just convince him to root for his brother's favorite driver instead.
Odds = 5 to 4
Fifth place, we find Dodge Boys Racing. Kenneth's Pepsi Dodge has finished in the top 25 in every race. Again, with the three Superstar picks that he has made being legitimate contenders week in and week out, you have to wonder if he can hang around for the whole schedule to make the Chase. One thing is for sure, he knows his way around the short tracks and can use that knowledge when making his weekly picks.
Odds = 3 to 1
Fast Eddie's Racing currently sits in sixth place. Ed's Mug Root Beer Chevy has also placed in the top 25 in every race thus far. He hasn't really used a bunch of star drivers for his Superstar yet, but wasting Kurt Busch at Bristol didn't help him either.
Odds = 4 to 1
Seventh place hosts Legacy Racing. Herb is a fan of tradition in NASCAR and it shows in his team's name and his love of the sport has garnered him enough knowledge to keep his Edelbrock Ford in contention. Proof of this is knowing that he hasn't picked a 'star' driver yet for his Superstar and yet everyone of them have placed in the top fifteen on that particular week.
Odds = 3 to 2
CrazyaboutRusty2 sits in eighth place. Brian's Miller Lite's Dodge has only used the Superstar pick three times but all three had Top Ten finishes. He has been fading the last four weeks while continuing to use his favorite driver; is it coincidence?
Odds = 10 to 1
And in ninth place is High Octane Racing. Dan's Chicago White Sox Chevy came barreling out of the gate in his rookie year and won the first two races, but has done little since. Debate has been was it luck? or was it using star Superstars so early? Nothing is definate, but I know its killing him to be experiencing the 'sophmore jinx' 34 races early and he should turn it around soon.
Odds = 25 to 1
Green Flag Racing rounds out the top ten. Carol's Big R Stores Ford is the only team owned by a female in the top ten and she looks to keep it that way. Her Superstar picks again have all finished in the top fifteen, but her fifth driver is killing her every week, a trend that alot of teams lower in the standings seem to be experiencing, so she will have to rectify that situation in order to make the Chase.
Odds = 30 to 1
There you have it. My take on who will make it and who will not of the current top ten. I'm sure that not all of you agree with me, but that is open for debate in the community forum. Some teams are proven winners while others are streaky and then you have to consider the other 33 teams that are looking to get into the Chase.
Interesting notes:
Nine males and one female make up the current order.
Five teams from last year are there along with five rookie teams.
Five Chevys, Three Fords, and Two Dodges are sitting atop the standings as of now.
Twenty-One races to go and its anyone's game.
