2015 Season
2015 would mark the 12th season for the Cup series, 9th season for the Truck series and the 11th season for the newly branded Xfinity series. It would also mark a milestone 10th season for the LROC series. The league would see other milestones this year as well including the 400th Cup race, 200th Truck race and the 1,000th combined race between all three series.
The new branding of the Xfinity series meant that Lucky Dog Racing's pages would be changed to match their colors. The league also instituted a new rule which would move all Cup series drivers into a separate group. The Xfinity series would start the season with 50 members which included four rookies, Wayne Sebern, Janet Sebern, Bill Stephens and Terry Smith. Later on Steve Barber would join and R.J. Palmer would make a return to the series as well.
The Truck series started with 54 members with 3 rookies, Todd Oliver, Rick Nelson and R.J. Palmer who returned to Lucky Dog Racing but raced in the Truck series for the first time. The series made a small but important change, picking segment trucks rather than drivers. This allowed members to receive points for whoever was in the race that week.
Lucky Dog Racing's team for the 10th season of the LROC series consisted of Lou Demian, Kevin Sullivan, Jose Rodriguez, Shane Burton, Kelly Wolfe and Ray Perrotta. The LROC series saw a new league join for the first time after MGTNFRL replaced The Cool Pool.
The Cup series began its 12th season for the first time in a somewhat unusual way. For the first time in history, even member who completed the previous season would return in 2015. That meant there would be no rookie of the year battle. The only real change this year would be that Lucky Dog Racing would now follow NASCAR's chase method by having four rounds with four drivers eliminated after each round.
The other change the league would make would be its method of missed picks which would affect all three series. From now on, a player was allowed one week of missed picks in each series they played in. A second week would give them half points for the week, the third miss would sit them out of the race entirely. A fourth miss would then remove them from the league.
The 2015 season kicked off as it usually does with the Sprint Unlimited. Terry Howell took the victory for the second year in a row. The following week, Kelly Wolfe won the big race, the Daytona 500. James Dillon took the season opener in the Xfinity series and Robby Stone won the Truck race.
The first repeat winner in the Cup series came from Ron Parlacoski, Jr. who won both Martinsville and Bristol. He would be tied for the most wins this year with Ron Blackman who each won three. Brian Blair was the All-Star race winner this year. Ron Blackman led the standings for the first half of the regular season and then Jessy Turgeon would take over at Pocono in June, leading up to the Chase.
This year's 16 Chase drivers consisted of Ron Parlacoski, Jr., Jose Rodriguez, Harry Jeffery, Jessy Turgeon, Jordan Hunt, Ron Blackman, Brian Blair, Teeder Jenkins, Kelly Wolfe, Jack Thesier, Dione Baker, Randy Cook, Stephen DiCaprio, Greg Miller, Bob Douce and Greg Eichele. There were two Chasers who won races in round 2, Stephen DiCaprio and Ron Blackman. Those that would be eliminated were Harry Jeffery, Dione Baker, Bob Douce and Kelly wolfe who was a bit of a surprise.
No Chasers won in round 2, everyone would make the next round on points alone. Teeder Jenkins, Jordan Hunt, Greg Eichele and Jack Thesier would be eliminated in the contender round.
Randy Cook was the only Chaser to win in the Eliminator round, he would make it to the final four along with Ron Parlacoski Jr., Brian Blair and Jose Rodriguez.
The Homestead race would determine the champion, whoever finished ahead of the other three would get to hoist the trophy. Even though he finished in 16th place, it was enough for Randy Cook to win his first championship. Randy had made just three Chases in his nine year cup series career and made the most of this new chase format. He wasn't the most consistent driver this year but won when he needed it the most.
El Diablo & The Magic Men Motorsports won their first team championship as they dominated most of the season. Jose Rodriguez also won the most valuable teammate and team owner's trophy as well. Jessy Turgeon was the most consistent player this year and won the awards for all of the league averages.
Kelly Wofe made made an early exit out of the Chase but he won big in the Xfinity series. He became the first Xfinity series champion after finishing 2nd last year in the Nationwide series. Wayne Sebern won the rookie of the year after a close battle with his wife Janet.
It was a wild ending to the Truck series season between three drivers, Stephen DiCaprio, Todd Oliver and Lou Demian. After a truck withdrew and a driver switch, it was bad news for Todd Oliver who would have won the championship but instead it went to Stephen DiCaprio. It was Stephen's first title win in Lucky Dog Racing. Todd Oliver came up short in the championship but easily won rookie of the year.
Lucky Dog Racing fell short in their quest for a LROC championship. The title went to P10 Select, their third career title. Philip Goodman won the drivers championship and became the third driver under P10 Select to win.
It was another great season for Lucky Dog Racing and we look forward to next year with great anticipation. It will be the league's 13th season and hopefully won't be a unlucky one.
